The New Zelda Game
Having not watched any recent content on youtube as relates to this subject. I had low/no expectations for the E3 Direct by Nintendo. Yet i watched the entire thing, title by title, knowing in the back of my mind, they always put something big at the end.
AND WAS I WRONG??
in a spot where i was certain they would announce Metroid. They went ahead and shocked us all, by announcing a brand new Zelda game for Switch. Not just any game, the one game that the entire community in unison had been clamoring for.
A direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, set in the same time, with the same Link, in the same rendition of Hyrule.
My mouth climbed to my ears on each side of my face as i realized what i was witnessing. The most gleeful expression strapped on my face as i witnessed the minute and a half of everything i had been waiting for and hoping for.
The following couple hours, my mind has been spinning around itself with thoughts, about the game. from what i saw, connecting dots and clues that may very well not be true but would still make for an incredible story. Hence i am writing now.
Here are various things i was left thinking after watching the first look trailer.
Ganondorf? Is that YOU???
Link And Zelda are exploring a part of Hyrule that is not known to us, seemingly underneath the castle. In this cave hidden deep underneath the castle, they discover a corpse shrouded in what appears to be malice, suspended a little above the floor, held in place by a mysterious hand covered in designs similar to that shown in the tower of the gods.
The corpse shrouded in malice has red over grown hair, a yellow ornament draped in gold in the middle of its forhead, but more interestingly, its other clues. the cloak around its legs, and what appears to be part of a headdress. carrying the symbol of the Gerudo. Can it possibly be him? The one true arch nemesis, the one true king of evil. Could it be the corpse of GANONDORF that was hanging there for the two heroes to bear witness to..
For one it does sort of make sense that he is there. in a cave, potentially underneath think about this for a second. The last time Ganondorf appeared in the timeline, was in Twilight princess, when he was first stabbed in the chest by the sages in an attempt to executing him. Before The Hero of Twilight drove the Master Sword through the same wound. Seemingly and according to Hyrule Historia, “The curtain fell on the destiny of the Demonic thief Ganondorf, Seeker of the Triforce… At least for a time.”
This book was published in 2013. 6 years ago. And already back then it was foreboding the return of Ganondorf.
In the various clips of the trailer that the corpse is shown, Its being held in place by the aforementioned mysterious hand. The hand happens to be more or less exactly above where Ganondorfs wound was. And if one took an extra look at the wound back in Twilight Princess, you’d see that it was glowing with white, almost spectral energy after the Sages had stabbed him. When The Hero Of twilight drives the Master Sword into him, that energy along with the Triforce of Power, and Ganondorfs life. escapes his body.
With this corpse hanging here, carrying a lot of similarities to the Demon King. Is it wrong to assume that the Sages, took the corpse, and hid it as far away from incapable hands as possible in order to hopefully quell Demises curse. With the sages, having not disposed of the body in a sound manner, It isn’t that far a stretch to believe that Demises curse could still manifest even if the host of the curse is dead is it?
But that isnt even the juciest part of the tricks my mind played on me..
Has he once again benefitted from peoples ignorance?
To understand my meaning in asking the question titulating the top of this page. It will take some back story, around The Goddess, Around the Sheikah, and its monks.
Din, Farore, and Nayru created the world, and left it in The Goddess Hylias care. in the first game of the timeline, Skyward Sword. Worship of Hylia is prevalent and its established that the earthly incarnation of Hylia is Zelda.
However, Skyward Sword is the only title to this point that has really said anything about Hylia. prior to that, we knew of Din, Farore, and Nayru. the gods that created the world and left the Triforce behind in this world.
You see no apparent reference to her in any title, Except Breath of the Wild. Which is on the polar opposite end of the timeline in relation to Skyward sword. in between. So since when did worship of Hylia become the norm again all of a sudden?
Also conspicuous in their appearance/return to prominence in Breath of the Wild, is the Sheikah Tribe. Who this far in the 30 years of Zelda games, we have seen Impa, Sheik… and scanning through Hyrule historia to the best of my ability. You dont find any prevalent figure from that tribe beyond those two, one female and one posing as a Sheikah.
Hyrule Historia also alleges that the incarnation of Impa seen in Ocarina of Time, is one of the last of her tribe. Impa dying in the Shadow Temple, essentially means one less Sheikah in whats already a borderline extinct tribe. One less chance to bring the tribe back.
They are as elusive as a whisper in the wind beyond that. Which is obviously part of the mystique. but how have they returned in such great numbers. when timeline wise, the last living sheikah was an old woman by the name of Impaz in Hyrules hidden village up north in Twilight princess. i dont know how maternity works in Zelda games, but i have serious doubts and concerns if old Impaz will be able to, not only find a suitable partner, but even to carry forth children at her advanced age. Meaning.. something is off here too..
The enigmatic Sheikah monks made their presence felt in Breath of the Wild. having never appeared in games, or Lore before, all of a sudden they, much like the tribe. being scattered all across the land, where upon Link would complete challenges to temper his spirit. So that one day his spirit would be ready to recollect the Master Swo….. RECOLLECT???
Clear as day in one of Links memories. The Shrines weren’t opened 100 years prior, Zelda tried to open while preparing for Calamity Ganons return. to no avail. They were only opened on the day that Link re-awakened from the Shrine of Resurrection. and activated the towers. For him to test his mettle before his ultimate undertaking of killing Calamity Ganon… except something is off here too..
While Link could pick up the sword that seals the darkness with no tempered spirit prior to his own downfall. All of a sudden its required he has 40 Spirit orbs to his name, given to the goddess statues to gain enough health to not die when retrieving his legendary weapon… Why is there another 80 Monks and challenges available all over the land? when Link clearly has the Sword, it “goes to eleven” in the presence of Guardians and Calamity Ganons alike. Equipped with a couple fairies, some good food/potions, a load of ancient arrows, and Calamity Ganon in both incarnations would be toast.
My mind jumped to these three because we are dealing with Ganondorf. A man that historically has preyed on peoples ignorance, to gain power for himself. Such as the most classic example, following Link into the sacred realm to gain the Triforce of Power in Ocarina of Time, as Link was put into a 7 years slumber where Ganondorf in the meantime would wreak havoc on the land of Hyrule as the King of Evil. because nobody though he would, nobody knew Link wasnt old enough to draw the Master Sword when he did. Noone knew it would plunge the land into chaos. But Ganondorf took his chance and it paid off until Link once again walked the fields of Hyrule.
As the Final battle in Breath of The Wild commences between Calamity Ganon in his final pure malice pig beast form, and Link on horseback. Zelda tells Link about Calamity Ganon” he has given up on reincarnation and assumed his true enraged form”. A man as stubborn and malicious as Ganondorf. “giving up” on his physical form? Is that the truth or what we are lead to believe?
What if the Spirit Orbs Link collected in Breath of the wild, in truth is fragments of Ganondorfs spirit that was taken from him in Twilight Princess? What if the monks, who played no part in the war where Calamity Ganon laid waste to the kingdom actually are in on the his game and have kept a piece of his spirit each. And what if the Goddess statues that peppered the land really all were just vessels for Link to return Ganondorfs Spirit to its complete state, and with that revive him!? And off of Links blissful ignorance at what he was setting in motion, he once again managed to manipulate other peoples effort to his own gain like he did in Ocarina of Time.
It would all of a sudden rationalize both the monks and the goddess existence in the game as opposed to the small part they play at face value. Also interesting that the corpse has various decorations that look like the Monks, rings akin to the monks, texture of one, and also. the fact that a Monk makes for a more formidable boss in the quest to get the Divine bike beast thingy. Than Calamity Ganon did himself did.
Im not stating this as fact, as theory, simply fiction, simply how my mind took in and made sense of the information Nintendo provided in their presentation yesterday. Simply put, exactly the outcome they wanted.
For which i say. Thank you Nintendo!! <3
